Enoch Arden - a moving work by Tennyson

Enoch Arden is a moving work by Tennyson - in fact, a veritable 'tear-jerker' - allegedly written while staying on Scilly (a commemorative plaque denoting this is to be found at the Tregarthen's Hotel on St. Mary's)  in the early 1860's. It was first published in 1864.

It was part-set to piano accompaniment by Ricard Strauss in the late nineteenth century and became a popular parlour piece in the following years in Germany.  The story of Enoch Arden (spoiler alert!) is described on the Minack Box Office link below, where you may purchase your tickets.

To bolster the evening, Michele will be singing a selection of hauntingly beautiful, traditional English sea songs. In addition Sarah Seddon will be exhibiting her wonderful collection of monoprints that were all inspired by the tale of Enoch Arden.

The whole programme will last - with an interval - about 90 minutes. There will be a glass of wine included in the ticket to tempt you further....

All proceeds from the evening are to be shared between St Buryan Church and St Petrocs homlessness charity.
